Why This Role Matters
Due to an internal promotion, Savills New Zealand’s Asset Management division is seeking an experienced Property Accountant to join our Christchurch office. This is a key role supporting the financial integrity of a major retail portfolio, ensuring accurate reporting, reliable cash flow management, and clear financial insights to help deliver strong outcomes for our client.
This opportunity is well suited to someone who is detail-oriented, highly organised, and confident working both independently and collaboratively. You will bring strong communication skills and a solid foundation in accounting principles. Experience within the property industry and familiarity with MRI are essential; however, your ability to consistently provide high-quality, dependable financial support in a fast-paced environment will be the key to success.
What You’ll be Doing
- Managing trust accounting processes, including reconciling trust accounts across multiple centres and overseeing daily transactions
- Preparing and reviewing monthly financial reports, including journals, accruals, and P&L statements to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Overseeing tenant and lease accounting, including rent reviews, lease charges, statements, and reconciliations
- Leading the preparation of property and tenant-level budgets, ensuring accurate forecasting and expense coding
- Managing and leading outgoings reconciliations (wash-ups) and expense recovery processes
- Ensuring audit readiness and compliance by leading audits and maintaining trust accounting standards
- Coordinating onboarding of new properties, including financial setup and system structures
- Supporting Property Administration functions, including tenant accounts, receipting, documentation, reporting, and budgeting inputs
What You’ll Bring
- Previous experience in similar role
- Property industry experience essential, retail sector experience highly regarded
- Working knowledge in using MRI essential
- Knowledge of leases, outgoings and recoveries
- Strong budgeting and wash-up experience
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong computer literacy
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
- Must be able to work independently with excellent time management skills
